Frequently asked questions
The answers that can be verified — and a clear admission of what cannot be, yet.
When are the 2030 Winter Games?
The Olympic Winter Games run from 1 to 17 February 2030, and the Paralympic Winter Games from 1 to 10 March 2030.
Where are the events held?
Across nine venues: Le Grand-Bornand and La Clusaz in Haute-Savoie; Courchevel, Val d'Isère and La Plagne in Savoie; Serre Chevalier and Montgenèvre in the Hautes-Alpes; Lyon for all the ice events; and Heerenveen in the Netherlands for speed skating.
Why is one event in the Netherlands?
Speed skating requires a covered 400-metre oval. France has none, and the organising committee chose Thialf in Heerenveen — the world benchmark venue — rather than building one. It is a first in the history of the Winter Games.
Are tickets on sale?
No. Neither the arrangements nor the timetable for ticketing have been published. Treat any site claiming to sell tickets today with suspicion.
When should I book accommodation?
As early as possible, but only with free cancellation. At previous editions, a large share of the capacity in host valleys was taken more than a year ahead by organisers and delegations. Booking early on cancellable terms locks in a price without committing you.
Can I see several venues on one trip?
Within a single valley, yes, easily. Between valleys it is another matter: allow a full day of driving between the Aravis and the Briançonnais. Better to choose one valley and explore it than to chase events across the range.
Can I ski during the Games?
Ski areas are expected to stay open, apart from competition sectors and their surroundings. The precise arrangements will be set resort by resort and are not yet known.
Do I need a car?
Not necessarily. Trains reach the floor of every valley, and shuttles run up to the resorts. A car helps if you want to string several venues together, but traffic will very probably be restricted on competition days, as at previous editions.
What does a week cost?
For two people, seven nights, excluding tickets: from €1,800 on a budget footing to €6,500 and beyond at the top end, based on ordinary winter rates. The budget page breaks down every item.
Is this site official?
No. It is an independent guide with no connection to the organisers. We sell nothing and represent no one. Some links are partner links, which earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.
