Where to stay
Heerenveen is a small town. Leeuwarden and Groningen, thirty and fifty minutes away by train, offer more capacity without stretching the journey unreasonably.
The resort for the rest of the winter
Friesland is the cradle of Dutch skating. In a hard winter the region stirs around the Elfstedentocht, a race on frozen canals last held in 1997.
